The purpose is to verify the behaviour of the cable installed individually to prevent the propagation of flames that may be transmitted from an external source.

The approval of single cables based on the reaction or fire resistance requires tests in specific conditions according to the IEC, UL, ASTM and ISO standards. 

Our customers-partners, careful to make always more performing cables suitable for being marketed worldwide, have submitted to us the need to test the resistance of the single cable to flame propagation according to the tests dictated by the different standards.

SIF research and development team has therefore taken up the challenge and developed a single system able to meet all the requirements. 

 

 

The system can realize now 9 different tests according to the following standards:

  2. IEC 60332-2-1/2
  3. FT2/Horizontal flame - UL 1581 and UL2556
  4. FT1 Test - UL 1581 and UL2556
  5. VW-1 (Vertical-Specimen)/FV2 Flame Test - UL 1581 and UL2556
  6. Cable Flame Test - UL1581
  7. Horizontal-Specimen Appliance-Wire Flame Test - UL1581
  8. FV-1/Vertical flame - UL2556
  9. ISO 6722 – Chapter 5.22 - Resistance to flame propagation 

 

 

The system is made of:

  • A single regulation cabinet for the air and gas flow and pressure with fine regulators, pressure gauges and measurement by high quality digital mass flowmeters.
  • A single control panelwith Siemens PLC and color touch screen display which allows to select, manage and execute the cycles of the different tests. The FT1, FT2, VW1, FV1 and Cable Flame Test flame application routine is made AUTOMATICALLY carrying out both the movement of the burner on and away from the sample under test according to the times described by the standards. When the intervention of the operator at a specific time during the test is required, an acoustic signal come outside of the control panel. At the end of the test the extinguishing of the flame is automatic and all the necessary times for the test evaluation are available on the screen. It is also possible to start the suction fan.

 

 

  • Single support table hosting all the test rigs with wheels and burner groups already fixed on the table. For the preparation of the tests there are some comfortable accessories that allow you to quickly transform the test set according to the different methods. The reference burners are always ready and connected to the test equipment and can be easily selected without the necessity to mount and demount them every time. It is possible to place the table inside the test chamber which is equipped with quick fit connectors for the connection of the group of burners in a few seconds, then the control of the tests and the flows are managed by the cabinets.
  • Safety chamber where it is possible to place the table whether during the test or when not in use. Made in stainless steel with hermetically closing front doors, windows for test inspection and protective gloves to carry out operations inside the cabin from the external in total safety. An internal led lamp allows a better vision. The quick fit connectors allow the operator to connect the burners group without moving the control and regulation cabinet. In addition, the cabin is already set up for connecting the customer's suction system.
